The Importance of Taking Care of Your Equipment

Update 6.14.07

Has anybody found a glove that looks strangely similar to the one illustrated below........?  It was left in the dugout Tuesday 6.12 of the AAA game in case there was the need for a left handed thrower to warm up our pitchers.

What does taking care of baseball equipment have to do with respecting the game of baseball?  Plenty!

First, baseball equipment can be very expensive.  Young players often take for granted how fortunate they are to be able to use the new, high-tech equipment that enables them to play at a higher level than ever before. In the early days of baseball, players would use whatever materials they could find to make balls, bats, gloves and protective equipment.  Respecting the game means taking care of this valuable equipment. When coaches and players leave their bats, gloves and helmets, this is not being respectful of the game of baseball.

We need to do a better job of keeping up with our equipment.  This includes coaches as well as players. As an example, the glove below was left on the field after a game Friday night on Loftis field.

Thanks,
Cubs Management
